O Jesus living in Mary — O Iesu vivens in Maria

The short prayer of the French School that Montfort put at the heart of the consecration

LatinEnglish

O Iesu vivens in Maria,
veni et vive in famulis tuis,
in spiritu sanctitatis tuae,
in plenitudine virtutis tuae,
in perfectione viarum tuarum,
in veritate virtutum tuarum,
in communione mysteriorum tuorum.
Dominare omni adversae potestati,
in Spiritu tuo, ad gloriam Patris.

O Jesus living in Mary,
come and live in your servants,
in the spirit of your holiness,
in the fullness of your power,
in the perfection of your ways,
in the truth of your virtues,
in the communion of your mysteries.
Rule over every hostile power,
in your Spirit, to the glory of the Father.

Amen.

The history of this prayer

Jean-Jacques Olier, founder of the seminary of Saint-Sulpice in Paris, composed this prayer in the seventeenth century to ask that Jesus, living in Mary, may live in us as well. St Louis de Montfort studied at Saint-Sulpice, prayed it every day and transcribes it in the Treatise on True Devotion (n. 246), saying that it sums up the whole devotion: Jesus is wholly in Mary, and Mary wholly in Jesus.

It is prayed after Communion, at the end of the Rosary, at the consecration and on the last day of the 33 days. The Latin is that of the French School; the English is our own translation.
