The Litany of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ is one of the great litanies of the Church. It grew from the devotion of St Gaspar del Bufalo and his Missionaries of the Precious Blood, and was approved for the whole Church by Pope St John XXIII in 1960. In twenty-four invocations it gathers the entire mystery of our redemption — from the Agony in the Garden to the Blood poured out on the Cross and given us in the Eucharist. Here it is in full, Latin and English side by side, so you can pray it now without leaving the page.

Let us pray. Almighty and eternal God, who appointed your only-begotten Son the Redeemer of the world, and willed to be appeased by his Blood: grant, we beg you, so to venerate the price of our salvation, and by its power to be defended from the evils of this present life on earth, that we may rejoice in its everlasting fruit in heaven. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Keep it through July
Pray this litany at least once a week through July, the month of the Most Precious Blood — alone, with your family, or in a holy hour. Where the Litany speaks, the whole Gospel of our redemption is prayed in miniature: “You were ransomed … with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Pet 1:18–19). Sanguis Christi, salva me.
